This policy explains what personal information Equity & Markets Insight collects, why, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
Equity & Markets Insight (equityandmarketsinsight.com) is operated by Equity & Markets Insight. We are the data controller for the information described in this policy.

What we collect
When you create an account
- Your email address, which is also your username.
- Your name, if you give one.
- Your password. This is handled by our authentication provider and stored as a cryptographic hash — we never see or store your actual password.
- The date and version of the disclaimer and terms you accepted.
When you choose what to receive
- Which of our publications you have subscribed to.
- The date you subscribed, and the date you unsubscribed if you later do.
- The date you confirmed your email address, where we asked you to.
When you use the tools (portfolio and watchlist)
- The companies you add to "My companies".
- Your portfolio entries: the company, the number of shares, the price and date you bought or sold at, and any notes you add.
We treat portfolio information as sensitive to you, because it describes your personal finances. We do not sell it, share it for marketing, or use it for anything other than showing you your own portfolio.
Automatically
- Standard technical information created when anyone visits a website: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and the time of the visit. This is generated by our hosting providers and used to keep the site running and secure.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for and do not want your bank details, card numbers, national insurance number, broker account details, or any login credentials for any other service. Never enter those into this site.

We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Marketing, and how to stop it
We only email you publications you have actively chosen. We do not add you to anything by default, and ticking nothing means we send you nothing.
When you subscribe we send one confirmation email; nothing else is sent until you click the link in it.
You can stop at any time:
- Use the unsubscribe link at the foot of any email. You do not need to log in to unsubscribe.
- Or change your choices on your account preferences page.
Unsubscribing is immediate for future sends. It does not delete your account — do that separately if you want to.
We will still send you occasional service messages where we need to: a password reset you asked for, a security notice, or a material change to these terms. You cannot unsubscribe from those while you hold an account, because they are part of running it.
Who else sees your data
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract, and only on our instructions:

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
We may disclose information if we are legally required to, or to establish or defend legal claims.
Where your data is held
Our application and account data are hosted by Base44, whose infrastructure may be located outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we make sure it is protected to the standard UK data protection law requires, using the safeguards that law provides for international transfers. We will name the hosting region here once our provider has confirmed it.
How long we keep it

The unsubscribe record is a deliberate exception: keeping a note that you asked not to be contacted is how we honour that request.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Get a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct anything inaccurate — you can edit most of it yourself in your account.
- Delete your account and data.
- Restrict or object to how we use it.
- Take it with you — receive your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, for anything based on consent, without affecting what we did before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these, email equityandmarketsinsight@gmail.com. We will respond within one month.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113) if you think we have handled your data badly. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Security
Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider and are never visible to us. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections. Access to account data is limited to those who need it to run the service.
No system is perfectly secure. Please use a strong, unique password, and tell us at equityandmarketsinsight@gmail.com if you think your account has been compromised.
Children
This service is intended for people aged 18 and over. It is not designed for children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Cookies
We use only cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work — principally to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics, so there is no cookie banner to click through. Our application platform keeps a first-party count of which pages are viewed; it is not shared with anyone.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and if the change is significant we will tell account holders by email.
