Who I Am

I'm an independent retail share trader. I don't hold any professional qualifications in the trading arena – my academic background is an accounting and management degree from the University of Reading. But my interest in markets goes back much further than that. I was around sixteen years old when I first started flicking through the share pages at the back of the broadsheet newspapers, and that early curiosity has stayed with me ever since.

Beyond the numbers, I'm fascinated by the wider picture: the political landscape, how companies operate, what drives them forward, and why some businesses consistently outperform others. For me, share trading has never been just about charts and price action – it's about understanding the story behind the stock.

My Approach to Trading

At heart, I am a fundamental share trader. I like to dig into the financial statements of companies, assess their progress, and form a view on where I think those businesses will be in the coming years. My focus is on identifying companies that I believe are undervalued and investing in them accordingly.

I also do swing trading from time to time, purchasing shares for shorter periods when I see a specific opportunity arise or when there's a particular reason to take a shorter-term position. But regardless of the time horizon, I am always research-driven. I do not buy on momentum alone. Just because something has gone up doesn't mean I'll be interested in purchasing it, and just because something has gone down doesn't necessarily mean anything to me either.

I've been doing this for many years now, and I've made good money over that time by sticking to this disciplined, research-first approach.

Why I Built This Website

As an independent trader, the world can feel quite small. I don't have teams of people around me to discuss trading ideas, debate market conditions, explore sectoral trends, or flag emerging risks and opportunities. I don't have professional industry experience to draw on either. What I do have is years of hands-on experience researching companies and investing my own capital – and I wanted a platform to share that work.

Equities and Markets is that platform. The website is a place for me to publish my thoughts on individual companies, sectors, and the markets in general. The aim is to share my research openly, to help other investors build their own understanding, and – over time – to build a community of like-minded traders who can bounce ideas off one another.

I very much welcome pushback. I want disagreement. Everything expressed on this website is simply my opinion – not black and white, not right or wrong. The real value comes when people challenge assumptions, offer alternative perspectives, and bring their own research to the table. That's how we all get sharper.
